Curriculum Intent

At Baysgarth the Science faculty provide the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Through building up key foundational knowledge and concepts, we provide opportunities for pupils to develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. We encourage them to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

The science curriculum at Baysgarth aims to ensure that all pupils:

• develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics with a progressive framework

• develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them

• are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

• are given opportunities to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts by applying their knowledge and explaining examples of science in everyday life.

• develop their social, oracy and interpersonal skills through the effective use of collaborative learning including learning from one another and challenging one another in a safe environment. 

• Are able to accurately read and interpret key terminology.

• experience live modelling and discovery to explain scientific concepts and develop ‘working scientifically’ skills

• are provided frequent opportunities to retrieve knowledge and understanding synoptically to strengthen pupil’s mental models
