Here, our first cohort of trainees share their experience of the first few weeks of their training...

"I have always had a passion for learning, in particular for my subject, English.  Due to this I have never had a break from education and didn't want that to stop . Therefore becoming a teacher and hopefully inspiring my students to have a passion for learning, regardless of ability, made the most sense for me.

I applied to train with RITE as my host school is within a community that is familiar to me and having a school that I know and would become my second home over the next year was really important to me when training.  I didn't want to be going to loads of different schools over the year so the RITE programme is perfect for that.

The first half term training with RITE has been really positive.  All of the staff are here to help whether they are in your faculty or not.  Those in charge of the RITE scheme are constantly supportive and are happy to answer any questions.  Having a close knit group of trainee's to train alongside has been invaluable, as there is always someone there who understands what you're experiencing.

I would recommend the RITE programme to anyone who is wanting to become a teacher and lives in the local area. There is a huge community spirit within the school and you feel like part of the family from the off". Ellie, English

"My inspiration to become a teacher has stemmed from my own educational journey and experiences after leaving school. I’ve done work experience in various schools, where I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that teachers have on their students. This reinforced my belief in the importance of education and the role it plays in shaping young lives. Additionally, my dad is a teacher, and I've seen how grateful students are for the support they receive. His passion for teaching has been a significant influence on me. I also have a strong passion for business studies, which began during my time at Baysgarth. Now, being able to work alongside the very teachers who inspired me is a wonderful opportunity. I want my students to understand that learning is a lifelong process that extends beyond the classroom. I hope to instill a love for learning in them, showing them that education is not just a requirement but a journey of discovery and growth.

I applied to train with RITE because of my connection to Baysgarth, where I was a student. Returning to the school that shaped my own education feels like a full-circle moment for me. RITE’s commitment to fostering new teachers through hands-on experience and mentorship resonates with my own values. I want to contribute to the same supportive environment that I benefited from as a student, and I believe that training here will allow me to do just that. The chance to work in a community that has played such a significant role in my life is incredibly meaningful.

My first half term with RITE has been a truly enriching experience. The support from my mentor has been invaluable; they’ve provided guidance that has helped me navigate the challenges of teaching. The host teachers have also been incredibly supportive, sharing their knowledge and resources freely. The entire school community has created an atmosphere where questions are welcomed, and collaboration is encouraged. I’ve appreciated how everyone is committed to supporting not just my development, but the well-being of all students.  I couldn't recommend RITE more highly; the support from the SCITT leads, fellow trainees, and the entire team has been exceptional.

If you're thinking about training to teach, one piece of advice I’d give is to spend time in different classroom settings before you start. Experiencing different schools and seeing the diverse needs of students really opens your eyes to how much teachers adapt to make sure no one is left behind. It’s amazing to see how teachers tailor their approach for each student, supporting them in different ways. For me, that hands-on experience has been invaluable and it’s made me appreciate the role even more and given me confidence going into my training". Bethany, Business

"I was inspired to train to become a teacher due to my passion for languages and the desire to share that passion with children and young people.

When I visited Baysgarth School on an Open Day, I was very impressed with the results from previous years and with the structure of the training program.  At the end of that day, R.I.T.E. had become my first option.

The past few weeks have been vVery interesting, exciting and intense, all at the same time.  Every lesson observed is a massive learning as you see expert teachers delivering top-quality lessons.  Every lesson taught is an opportunity to practice and apply what you learn outside the classroom.  I get all the support I need to improve every day.

I recommend that everyone thinking about applying to go and visit the schools first.  Get to know the people you would be training with and the school's atmosphere".  Fernando, MFL

"I did Psychology at university; learning how this stage in their life is a critical period as well as enrolling in an education module had really solidified my desire to aid kids educationally, mentally and emotionally.

Choosing R.I.T.E. was easy as Baysgarth is one of the top performing schools in the Humber region and among the top schools nationally for progress.  Of course this is down to the students but teachers really have a focus of driving the best out of each and every student.

My experience so far has been extremely positive.  Any nerves and uncertainties have all been eased through support and guidance from staff within my department and from the wider school community.  I have been reassured and have received high-quality coaching, preparing me to feel ready to gradually begin teaching classes, so I was not overwhelmed with the new environment".  Ahd, Science

"After leaving University with a degree in Psychology, I went on to work as an LSA (Learning Support Assistant) in the SEND department at Baysgarth School for a year - I found this role really fulfilling as I could clearly see the rewarding impact that a positive teacher role model has on the students. This inspired me to train to become a teacher as I loved working within the school environment and helping children to achieve their goals. I assisted in many different subjects, year groups and abilities as an LSA so I experienced a wide variety of teaching styles and techniques which helped me gain a greater understanding into the type of teacher I'd like to become.

I chose to apply to train with RITE as I had already spent a year in Baysgarth working as an LSA (Learning Support Assistant) within the SEND department. I feel this helped my transition into teacher training as I had already built strong connections with the pupils and staff so it felt only right to train here.

I have really enjoyed my first half term of teacher training - you can already see the impact you make on the pupils and their learning. Everyone involved in the RITE training and the wider staff at Baysgarth School are super helpful and no question is too much trouble for anybody! I have already received so much support and encouragement from the other staff which makes settling into a new role exciting and much less daunting. I'm looking forward to continuing this journey throughout the year and ultimately achieving my goal of becoming a teacher!

I would recommend training to teach to anyone who is interested, as it is such a fulfilling role. I would certainly say to immerse yourself in the school environment as it's seeing the pupils have 'light-bulb moments' everyday that makes the role so rewarding. One of the biggest benefits is that no two days are ever the same which keeps the role interesting and provides constant learning opportunities for yourself. Therefore, if you are interested in a career that is full of fun, satisfaction and is extremely rewarding then teacher training could be for you!" Kayleigh, Maths

"I wanted to train to become a teacher to inspire the next generation and contribute to their learning.

I chose RITE to train with so I would be able to get experience within a school from the start, learning on the job. RITE offered me the opportunity to pursue this career change due to location.

I had considered the career change for a couple of years, however the life change of having a child gave me the push I needed to do this. Returning to work full time from maternity leave is never easy; returning to a new career was definitely going to be challenging! RITE have been supportive with this, helping me to navigate training and working alongside a change in home circumstances and a new found need for childcare. Emma has been there for any questions we have.

If you're thinking about it, just do it! The perfect time for a career change is never going to come, with the right mentality you can achieve anything you put your mind to". Jessica, Maths

"Teaching has always been something I've thought about doing growing up due to the experiences I've had within school and sport. I've been fortunate enough to have some amazing teachers, coaches and mentors who have helped me massively in sport and academia. Wanting to ensure that students of today have the same experiences I had combined with my passion for sport and helping others has inspired me to want to get into teaching and provide students with the best possible experiences in school and sport.

The reason why I applied to train with RITE is due to it providing a really supportive environment to learn and train in. When applying and looking around the school I could tell straight away that it was the right place for me due to the facilities within the school and the friendliness of the staff who have helped me massively since I have joined.

I have really enjoyed my first half term of teaching. All the staff have been hugely supportive and have given lots of amazing advice that has developed my teaching due to the knowledge and experience they possess. All the classes have been great to teach and I look forward to continuing to progress and getting to know them more throughout the year.

For anyone thinking of teaching I would 100% recommend it due to how rewarding the job is and the impact you can have on students learning. I would recommend getting to know the curriculum before you start so you can revise any topics you aren't too sure of before you begin and also to just fully embrace the role and get to know the students as quickly as possible as this can make your teaching much easier, particularly when you first start".
