Are you handy and passionate about creating safe, welcoming spaces?
If so, join our alternative provision as a Caretaker, where your work will directly support the smooth running of our site and the students who thrive here. Under the guidance of the Site Manager, you will oversee maintenance, security, cleaning, and general upkeep in Headway.
This is a varied and rewarding role, offering the chance to make a real impact on our learning environment every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain security and safety, including routine opening/closing, alarm testing, and emergency responses.
- Perform general repairs, basic plumbing, carpentry, door and furniture maintenance, and minor electrical tasks.
- Keep grounds, playgrounds, and allotments clean, safe, and welcoming.
- Support school lettings and extra-curricular activities, liaising with external users and contractors.
- Operate heating and boiler systems, ensuring comfortable and safe conditions.
- Monitor cleaning standards, maintain equipment, and manage deliveries and supplies.
- Respond to emergency situations and work independently to resolve urgent maintenance issues.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Practical DIY skills: plumbing, joinery, basic electrical, and furniture repair.
- Knowledge of health & safety regulations (COSHH, moving & handling, hygiene).
- Ability to operate cleaning and small machinery safely.
- Strong time management, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and respond flexibly to changing demands.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate flexibility as there could be times where you would be required to work at either Baysgarth School or at Castledyke Primary School supporting the children across the Federation.
This is more than just a caretaker role — it’s an opportunity to be the heartbeat of our school, ensuring our students and staff have the safe, functional, and inspiring environment they deserve. If you take pride in hands-on work, problem-solving, and creating welcoming spaces, we want to hear from you!
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the post, please feel free to contact Shane Chapman or Kitty Curtis at the school.
Riverview Family of Schools is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to apply for enhanced disclosure from the DBS.
Interviews will be held later the same week.
