Instagram have shared tips for parents around their new Teen Accounts initiative...

Built-in protections for teenagers and peace of mind for parents is what the new 'Teen Accounts' will offer.

Young people aged between 13 and 17 years will automatically receive enhanced protective settings that will limit unwanted contact and ensure only age appropriate content is shown to help manage their time on the app and safeguard them whilst they are online. This will be rolled out globally over the next few months.

It is really important for parents and carers to supervise their child's social media accounts and activity, particularly in relation to their privacy settings.  We would encourage all parents and carers to review the privacy settings on their child's account, including:

  • Setting time limits for usage
  • Reviewing and amending safety settings
  • Viewing insights around your child's usage and who they chat with
