Plastic Innovation
Baysgarth has been awarded the top spot by the British Plastics Federation...
A review of the 'Top 15 Innovations in Plastics 2024' has seen Baysgarth School taking first place, beating off competition from companies such as Jaguar and Tosca.
The phenomenal work of the Design Technology team around promoting and embedding Greenpower into the school's curriculum has earnt Baysgarth top spot for our groundbreaking and innovative practices, both inside the classroom and on the track! Within the plastics industry, the team's focus on sustainability and efficiency is pioneering in the education sector, and the work has only just begun.
Recently taking part in the Greenpower Education Trust International Finals, the team placed 16th overall and recorded a personal best for the school for number of laps; a massive achievement from everyone.
And to continue this streak, a substantial amount of funding has been secured from North Lincolnshire Council and other local businesses to develop the UK's first school test track to research, test and develop more electric cars. We plan for the track to be made entirely from recycled plastic tarmac, with electric cars also made from recycled plastic - all of which is to be sourced from the town and beach cleans, sorted and shredded at the school, and then formed into the new useable material.
We hope that the track will be ready for our students and the local community to use by September 2025. Stay tuned for updates soon.
