The Government also takes this matter very seriously - we have a new safeguarding policy that is taken from the national document. All staff have had updated training on this document and undertake annual refreshers.  Castledyke Primary hosts an annual safeguarding conference for local schools each January.

The Riverview Family of Schools Safeguarding team is:

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mr North & Miss Smith

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL): Mrs Bartlett

We try hard to incorporate a number of aspects of safeguarding into the curriculum. Children take part in water safety, fire safety, cycle training and have input on such things as sun safety, healthy eating and hydration.

Children need updates on all safeguarding issues, however, there are some aspects of safeguarding that have to be addressed very regularly and these are to do with such topics as anti-bullying, including cyber bullying and on line grooming.

You can see that the safguarding agenda is a wide one. We are now charged with working with the Police on preventing children from becoming radicalised or subject to ultra right wing, or hate messages. Along with this we must also ensure that we keep our eyes open for any signs that our girls are becoming the victims of female genital mutilation (FGM). This is a serious matter affecting some sections of the female population. Parents and carers are urged to report any worries that they might have in relation to these issue either to the school or to the authorities - we can provide you with details. The message on any safeguarding issue is - if you are worried talk to us about it.

The internet continues to be an area of concern with regard to safeguarding. Internet safety is taught within school, with messages given to the children on how to keep themselves safe when using it at school as well as home. Our messages are clear and simple. We do not want to frighten children, or make them think that the world is too dangerous for them to deal with. We teach them to be vigilant; to be observant, to talk about any of their worries and to report anything at all that they feel is not right. We urge parents and carers to do the same thing. We want our children to grow up confident and with the skills necessary to achieve their goals in adult life.
