KS3
The Key Stage 3 (KS3) Mathematics curriculum follows a similar structure to the White Rose Maths scheme of work, designed around a mastery approach. This means topics are taught in small, logical steps so students build a deep, lasting understanding rather than just memorising procedures.
Instead of jumping randomly between subjects, concepts build on each other year after year.
Year 7: Building Strong Foundations
Year 7 focuses on bridging the gap from primary school and making students confident with core mathematical structures and representations.
Year 8: Expanding Knowledge & Proportional Reasoning
Year 8 moves into proportional thinking, working with dynamic relationships, and multi-step problem solving.
Year 9: Advanced Concepts & GCSE Readiness
Year 9 acts as the bridge to Higher/Foundation GCSE Maths, introducing key secondary topics and abstract reasoning.
KS4
The curriculum follows White Rose Education’s mastery approach, building deep conceptual understanding through small steps, concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) representations, and interleaved revision/assessment cycles.
Year 10 Focus: Core Skill Mastery & Concept Expansion
Year 10 is designed to establish strong foundations across core strands (Algebra, Number, Proportion, and Geometry) while introducing crossover topics between Foundation and Higher tiers.
Year 11 Focus: Advanced Topics, Interleaving & Exam Readiness
Year 11 completes the remaining higher-level specification topics during Autumn/early Spring, shifting swiftly into Question Level Analysis (QLA) and targeted exam preparation.
