Pupil Premium is the name of the fund given directly to schools to support students who receive Free School Meals, who are in public care or young people whose parents are in the armed forces.
Pupil Premium supported students make up around 33% of our students.
At Baysgarth School, Pupil Premium funding is used strategically to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all students can achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
A significant proportion of funding is invested in literacy support, including the delivery of Lexonic reading interventions. These targeted programmes are designed to improve reading fluency, comprehension and reading age, enabling students to access the wider curriculum more successfully and develop the literacy skills needed for future success.
We also invest heavily in attendance support. Our dedicated attendance team works closely with students and families to identify and overcome barriers to regular school attendance. Funding supports a range of attendance initiatives aimed at improving engagement, promoting positive attendance habits and ensuring that students maximise their learning opportunities.
Pupil Premium funding also contributes towards staffing within our specialist provisions. These highly skilled staff provide targeted academic, pastoral and behavioural support for students who require additional intervention. Through personalised support and adapted approaches to learning, these provisions help vulnerable students remain engaged in education, improve outcomes and successfully access an ambitious curriculum.
By investing in these areas, we aim to improve attendance, strengthen literacy, enhance engagement with learning and ultimately improve educational outcomes for our disadvantaged students.
Every school is required to report on how it intends to spend Pupil Premium grant for the current academic year and how it was spent in previous years.
