KS3

At Baysgarth, our MFL curriculum is designed to broaden students' horizons, spark curiosity about other cultures, and help them become confident, articulate linguists.

Throughout the curriculum, students build proficiency across four core skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Grounded in key vocabulary, grammar, and phonics, pupils learn to share personal and factual information, express their own opinions with growing independence and accuracy and understand authentic spoken and written German.

Alongside language proficiency, students build communication skills, self-belief, and global awareness through collaborative group work and cultural celebrations like the European Day of Languages.

KS4:

At Baysgarth, our Key Stage 4 MFL curriculum builds upon foundational language learning from KS3 to cultivate resilient, confident, and articulate linguists. Designed to broaden students' horizons and foster curiosity about the wider world, our KS4 course equips learners with strong communication tools, cultural appreciation, and academic rigor to prepare them for GCSE success and future careers.

Throughout Key Stage 4, students systematically develop their proficiency across the core language pillars, listening, speaking, reading, and writing, anchored in essential grammar, vocabulary, and translation skills.

Spoken & Written Expression: Students learn to convey personal and factual information, articulate reasoned opinions, and write for diverse audiences with increasing spontaneity, fluency, and grammatical accuracy.

Authentic Comprehension: Learners engage with a variety of authentic spoken and written texts, strengthening their problem-solving and listening skills.

Grammatical Progression: Students progressively master complex sentence structures, verb tenses, and translation techniques, with key vocabulary regularly revisited to ensure long-term retention.

Life Skills & Employability: Through collaborative classroom activities, pupils build oracy, self-belief, resilience, and intercultural understanding, equipping them to succeed in a global workplace
